Nguyễn Huệ is the wide pedestrian boulevard that runs from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee building, the French-colonial Hôtel de Ville with the Ho Chi Minh statue in front of it, straight down to the Saigon River. It became a car-free walking street in 2015 and is one of the main public spaces in central Saigon, busiest in the evenings and on weekends when families, street performers and photographers fill the granite plaza. Each Lunar New Year it is transformed into Đường Hoa Nguyễn Huệ, the city's flower street.
The address is squarely tourist-and-business central. The Café Apartment at number 42, an old residential block now stacked with independent cafés and boutiques, sits on one side, and the Rex Hotel anchors the corner with Lê Lợi. Around it you will find international hotels, retail and office towers rather than quiet residential lanes, which is exactly why so many short-stay visitors and relocating expats pass through.
