Mid-trip laundry need? Here's exactly what to do. Step-by-step, no fluff, real prices, written for English-speaking tourists in Ho Chi Minh City.
Step 1: Understand your 3 options
| Option | Cost | Speed | Effort | When to choose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel laundry | $10-30 per 5kg | 24-48h | Easy (call reception) | Don't have time/data for WhatsApp |
| Pickup service | $6-10 per 5kg | 4-24h guaranteed | Easy (WhatsApp once) | Most travelers — best balance |
| Local Vietnamese laundromat | $4-8 per 5kg | 24-48h | Hard (no English, drop-off needed) | Long-term expats who speak Vietnamese |
For 95% of tourists: pickup-and-delivery service (like Giặt Ơi!) is the right choice. Cheaper than hotel, faster than local laundromat, fully English-speaking, no language barrier.
Step 2: WhatsApp the service
Number: +84 39 754 4696
What to type — copy + paste this and edit:
Hi, I'd like pickup laundry from [hotel name], room [number]. Approximately [X] kg. I need clothes back by [time]. Address: [hotel address if needed].
Response time: 10 minutes or less. We confirm the price (always flat per-kg, no surprises) and driver ETA.
Step 3: Decide Express (4h) or Standard (24h)
- Express 4-hour: 50,000đ/kg ($2/kg). Best for: flight tomorrow morning, dinner tonight, urgent business meeting. Order by 10:30 AM for return by 14:30.
- Standard 24-hour: 30,000đ/kg ($1.20/kg). Best for: most travelers. Order anytime, back by same time next day. Cheapest option.
- Minimum order: 5kg in both cases. If you only have 2kg, the 5kg minimum still applies (150,000đ = $6).
Step 4: Bag your laundry
Use any bag you have:
- Your hotel's laundry bag (every room has one)
- A shopping bag from your sightseeing
- Your duffel or carry-on bag
Write your room number on a sticky note inside or outside the bag. We label it ourselves on pickup, but pre-labeling makes coordination easier.
Before bagging — check pockets! Empty all pockets. Driver does a basic check at pickup, but small items (jewelry, cash, hotel keycards) won't be detectable through pockets.
Step 5: Hand bag to your hotel's concierge / reception
This is the easiest step. Just walk to the front desk or concierge desk and say:
"Giặt Ơi! is picking up my laundry shortly. Can you hold it for the driver? Thank you."
Concierge / reception at every major HCMC hotel knows our drivers and the process. They handle the actual handover; you don't need to be present.
You can leave the hotel immediately after dropping the bag. Go sightseeing, lunch, anything. The pickup happens without you.
Step 6: Wait 4 or 24 hours
While you wait, here's what happens behind the scenes:
- Driver arrives at hotel within 30 minutes of your WhatsApp confirmation
- Driver weighs your bag in the lobby in front of the concierge, takes a photo receipt
- Receipt sent to you via WhatsApp with: actual weight, total price, order code (GO-YYYY-NNNN)
- Bag travels to our central facility via a dedicated routing van
- Sort, wash, dry, fold, pack — each step photographed and sent to you via WhatsApp
- Quality check before delivery — second photographer reviews each item
- Bag returns to your hotel concierge at the scheduled return time
You'll get a WhatsApp message when the driver is 10 minutes from delivery, so you can be at reception to collect (or just let the concierge call your room when it's ready).
Step 7: Pay on delivery
You pay when you receive the clean clothes, not before. No deposit, no app required.
Accepted payment methods:
- Cash VND — most common
- Cash USD — accepted at day's exchange rate (Vietcombank mid-rate)
- VietQR — Vietnamese bank QR scan (if you have a Vietnamese bank app)
- Bank wire / SWIFT — for B2B contracts only
Not accepted yet: credit cards, PayPal, foreign apps. (For high-value dry cleaning we can arrange invoiced billing via email — ask.)
Common scenarios — what to do
Scenario: "I'm at Park Hyatt Saigon for 3 days"
Drop laundry mid-stay morning (e.g., day 2 at 9 AM). Standard 24h returns next morning. Cost: 150,000đ ($6) for 5kg. Concierge handles the handover. Park Hyatt page →
Scenario: "I'm at a Pham Ngu Lao hostel for 5 days"
WhatsApp us mid-trip (day 2-3). Same Standard 24h pickup. Drop at hostel reception. Same 150,000đ ($6) for 5kg. Many backpackers use this exact pattern. Bui Vien area page →
Scenario: "My flight to Bangkok is at 6 PM today, I need clothes by 4 PM"
Express 4-hour service. Book by 10:30 AM, clothes by 14:30. Cost: 250,000đ ($10) for 5kg. Mention "6 PM flight" in your WhatsApp and we prioritize the slot.
Scenario: "I'm a digital nomad here for 2 months at an Airbnb"
Set up weekly pickup. Same Standard 24h pricing (30,000đ/kg). Pre-schedule a recurring weekly slot. Mention "weekly pickup" in your initial WhatsApp.
Scenario: "I have only 2 kg of laundry"
Minimum 5kg still applies (150,000đ = $6). For under-5kg loads, hotel laundry might be marginally competitive at 3-star hotels, but for 4-5 star hotels we're still cheaper.
Scenario: "I have a dry-clean-only silk dress"
Quoted per piece, not per kg. Silk dress: typically 150,000-250,000đ. Send a photo via WhatsApp; we quote exactly. Same partner cleaner used by Park Hyatt and Sofitel — at a fraction of their pricing.
Things to know before your trip
Vietnam doesn't have US-style coin laundromats
If you're used to feeding quarters into machines back home — that doesn't exist here. The local model is "drop-off shop" (tiệm giặt ủi) where you leave clothes for 24-48 hours, or pickup-and-delivery via services like ours.
Hotel laundry is 3-5× pickup-service pricing
This is the most common surprise for tourists. A 5-star hotel might charge 150,000đ per shirt; we wash 5kg for the same price. Confirmed across 25+ hotels (see our cost comparison page).
Time it right — don't leave laundry to your last day
If you drop laundry the morning of your check-out, Standard 24h means it'll be done after you've left. Plan ahead:
- Standard 24h: drop at least 24 hours before you need clothes back
- Express 4h: drop by 10:30 AM for same-day return
- Both: confirm via WhatsApp before pickup that the timeline works
Saigon humidity is real — air drying is impractical
Even if you wanted to hand-wash and air-dry in your hotel room, Saigon's 80%+ humidity means clothes take 24-48 hours to dry properly and often develop mildew smells. Industrial drying (which we use) eliminates this issue entirely.
Don't forget pockets!
Phones, passports, cash, hotel keycards — we do a basic check but small items can be missed. Always empty pockets before bagging.
